Bank deutscher Länder

The Bank deutscher Länder was created on March 1, 1948 for the three western occupied zones as a uniform central bank. For the implementation of the currency reform, the first coins and bank notes were published on July 20. Later the Bank deutscher Länder passed over to the Deutsche Bundesbank (German Central Bank).

The German course coins till 1949 still carry the name "Bank deutscher Länder", and then from 1950 "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" was imprinted. There is a specific feature in the 1950’s 50Pf pieces of the mint G (Karlsruhe); an edition of 30,000 pieces reached the circulation with the old inscription. Today these coins have a relative high collector's value.
